Our prevention and management of aggression  training is designed to help employers meet the legislative requirements and also best practice guidelines for a variety of roles within the workplace. The training will support each individual in identifying the risks to themselves and the potential risks to others when a potential or actual aggressive incident occurs.

WHAT WE OFFER

Practical Skills Training can offer a variety of training packages to meet the needs of employers and employees. These include:

CONFLICT RESOLUTION TRAINING

This training is designed for any health or care workers who’s role involves contact with members of the public. This training meets the learning outcomes identified by NHS Protect. This will include:

  • Describing the common causes and different stages of conflict

  • Reflecting upon  experiences of conflict situations

  • Awareness of at least three forms of communication models that can be used to deal with three different levels of conflict.

  • Understanding the level of emphasis that can be placed on verbal and non verbal communication during a conflict situation.

  • The development of an awareness of cultural differences.

  • Recognition the behavioural pattern of individuals during conflict,

  • Identifying the warning and danger signs that could lead to a physical attack,

  • Recognising environmental factors affecting conflict situations,

  • Understand the importance of keeping a safe distance in conflict situations and explaining the use of ‘reasonable force’ as described in law and its limitations and requirements.

BREAKAWAY TRAINING

This training builds upon the learning outcomes from the conflict resolution training and also focuses on skills to enable individuals to physically disengage and breakaway from an intentional or unintentional hold or assault. This may range from unintentional low-level assaults from individuals who are confused, disinhibited, disoriented or frightened  to more serious intentional assaults.

The skills that are demonstrated  range from managing wrist grabs, clothes grabs, hair grabs, neck and shoulder grabs and also punches and kicks. The skills are are developed to manage a low risk of injury to a medium and high risk of injury.

Some of these encounters may involve a varying degree of conflict and the vast majority will be successfully managed by careful assessment of the situation and good interpersonal skills that are part of the conflict resolution training.

SAFE HOLDING TRAINING

This training builds upon the conflict resolution training and focuses on the appropriate safe holding of individuals, when it is safely risk assessed to do so, who have the potential or when displaying signs of aggression. This may involve activities  such as: getting out of a chair, assisting individuals to walk,  assisting with personal hygiene and moving positions in bed.

Some of these encounters may involve a varying degree of conflict and the vast majority will be successfully managed by careful assessment of the situation and good interpersonal skills that are part of the conflict resolution training.
